Spires + Graddick | Wedding
When I woke up on April 25th, the forecast said there was 100% chance of thunderstorms. I felt terrible that Heather and Thomas would have to say their vows in a torrential downpour. Every bride hopes for sunshine on her special day. When Julia and I arrived in Ridgeway, the sky was gloomy, but Heather greeted us with a big hug and bright smile. We watched her rush around doing last minute decorating, pouring people drinks and trying to keep everyone calm - and never complaining about the weather.
When it came time for the first look, I thought I was prepared. I shoot lots of weddings, and I try to not let my emotions get the best of me because I don't want to miss anything. I had never cried on a wedding day (not even my own!) until Heather and Thomas's first look. They held balloons in front of their faces and released them in unison. The look on Thomas's face when he saw his bride for the first time was so genuine and full of love. Tears flowed as they walked to meet each other. As I watched from a distance, the moment they were sharing made something like rain seem so unimportant. Weather can be inconvenient, but love like this happens once in a lifetime.
An hour later, I sat in a pew waiting for the ceremony to start. Guests moved to their seats and suddenly something magical happened. Five minutes before the ceremony began, the sun started shining. Not only did the storm miss us, the whole venue was lit up with golden afternoon sunlight.
The wedding was beautiful, unique, and totally Heather + Thomas. Right down to Darcy joining them at the altar. I am so happy for you both and wish you all the happiness in the world. I can't thank you enough for trusting me with something so important.
Congratulations, Mr. + Mrs. Graddick!
xoxo,
Whitney
